Suicidality and the Transgender Community
SPCC Education Session and Coalition Meeting
Wednesday, January 10th, 2018
The Presentation is free and open to the public
Location: Boulder County Library Reynolds Branch Room 3595 Table Mesa Drive, Boulder, CO 80305
Time: 9:30 -10:30 am (followed by regularly scheduled SPCC Coalition Meeting 10:30-11:30am, also open to all interested in SPCC)
Discussion: The transgender community is a vibrant and diverse community, yet they experience a significantly elevated occurrence of suicidality compared to the cisgender population. Suicidality and other mental health indicators are even more discouraging for trans people of color and trans youth. Suicidality and other health disparities are effects of systemic and interpersonal bias, stigma, and discrimination that trans people face. Out Boulder County will guide us through examining gender, statistics around suicide in the transgender community, and effective allyship and bystander strategies for personal and professional circumstances.

Michal is a proud non-binary queer person who uses they/them pronouns and has long been involved in queer education and organizing. They are dedicated to fostering safe spaces for people to learn and engage about gender and sexuality. It's important to Michal to be a part of the conversation and movement around queer, trans*, and LGBIA+ issues, to explore our ivtersectionalities within and around our communities, and to learn and teach along the way.
